We organise:

  • training days for employers, dyslexia professionals, and adults with dyslexia and dyspraxia
  • a training course for dyslexia professionals (run in conjunction with London Metropolitan University)

Dyslexia Awareness for Employers

For employers who wish to develop best practice in the workplace for supporting dyslexic employees

Dyslexia in the Workplace

For dyslexia professionals and support workers who wish to develop skills in assessing and training dyslexic employees, and in advising employers on good practice.

Diagnostic Assessment in Higher Education

For dyslexia professionals who wish to acquire skills in assessing dyslexic students in higher education.

In more detail:

Training Day: Dyslexia Awareness for Employers

These training days are designed especially for Managers, Human Resource and Occupational Health staff, and for all other groups interested in developing good practice in relation to dyslexic and dyspraxic employees.

Topics covered include:

  • How dyslexia and dyspraxia affect efficiency at work
  • Identification and assessment
  • Intervention and adjustments at different levels: individual, team and organizational
  • Reasonable adjustments at all stages of the employment life cycle: recruitment, staff development & appraisal, promotion
  • IT solutions and Access to Work support and funding
  • How recent changes in the work environment impact particularly on staff with dyslexia
  • The legal framework, including the Disability Discrimination Act and the Data Protection Act

Dyslexia in the Workplace

These training days are designed for professionals already working in the field of dyslexia who wish to gain further understanding about how to assess and support individuals with dyslexia at work.

Topics covered include:

  • Identification and assessment
  • Disclosing dyslexia to an employer
  • Reasonable adjustments
  • Interventions to provide support at various levels from the individual up to the whole organisation
  • Effective IT support
  • Funding and Access to Work
  • Cultures and trends at work which impact particularly on those with dyslexia
  • The Disability Discrimination Act and its implications

Case studies will be presented to illustrate all of the above.

Diagnostic Assessment in Higher Education

These training days are designed for the specialist teacher or psychologist wishing to follow the current Government guidelines on assessment. They offer an opportunity to explore key aspects of adult assessment and to update knowledge of tests and assessment tools.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding the different diagnostic labels
  • The responsibilities of assessment
  • Recommended tests
  • Interpreting different patterns of scores
  • Writing effective and clear reports
  • Making comprehensive and practicable recommendations.

The training days take place at intervals throughout the year.
